In 2014, Michelle teamed up with Allan Kobernick, Director of Multimedia Services and Producer of CCPTV at Community College of Philadelphia, to create and produce the Drop the Mic Spoken Word Poetry Competition. Merging a slam poetry format with a reality TV talent show format, Drop the Mic showcases student poets from the Community College of Philadelphia, applauds their artistic expression, and celebrates the passion of their experiences and convictions.
Filming of Drop the Mic, “Season 1” took place in October 2014, and the first show premiered on CCPTV in February 2015. Filming of “Season 2” took place in October 2015, and the shows premiered in February 2016. Airing on Comcast cable network Channel 53 or on FiOS Channel 21, the show can be viewed throughout the city of Philadelphia.
In both 2015 and 2016, Drop the Mic was nominated for an Emmy Award by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences in the category of “Entertainment Program – Special.”
Other awards presented to Drop the Mic include a Silver Communicator Award, a Bronze Telly Award, and a CINDY Award.
